CSAA Conference Fellowship Grant
The Country School Association of America makes it a priority to keep conferences affordable and to offer Fellowships and volunteer programs to make these events even more accessible. CSAA is sponsoring two “complete package” Fellowships to the Annual Conference to anyone who, due to financial constraints, would otherwise not be able to attend the conference.
To apply, prepare a letter of application that discusses the following:
Who you are. Explain your current involvement/relationship with the country school community (for example, as a student, schoolmarm, historic preservationist/restorer, researcher, program developer, etc.)
Your goals for attending the conference
How attendance will benefit you and what you hope to gain from the experience
Evidence of financial need (for example, limited museum/schoolhouse budget, current status as a student, personal financial situation, etc.)
Way to contact you: Email address and street address, phone optional
PLEASE NOTE: This Fellowship covers the costs for a 3 day conference - registration, sessions, workshops, meals, activities, and onsite lodging only.
Recipients will be responsible for their own travel and incidental costs
Applicants must be current CSAA members
Previous recipients are not eligible for a period of 2 years
The application period is from January 31st through March 15th each year.
Fellowship awards will be announced prior to March 31st.
Following the conference, each Fellowship winner will be expected to write a short article for the CSAA Blog that includes observations on his or her experience. The newsletter text (with pictures if you desire) should be sent to Susan Fineman at [email protected] by July 30th following the conference.
Please make submissions through the CONTACT US link; questions may also be directed through this link; attention: Richard Lewis.

CSAA Volunteer Work Exchange Program
CSAA also is offering a few attendees the opportunity to lighten the financial burden of attending the conference if they are willing to volunteer their services during the conference as a Work Exchange participant. Work Exchange participants play a key role in creating an organized and pleasant environment for all attendees. These volunteer positions are considered “staff” and under the direction of the conference chair during their time of service and will be expected to provide a maximum of 6 hours of service per day and in exchange will receive onsite conference lodging for that night and registration fees and meals for the next day.
Volunteer work activities will vary but may include such things as:
Assisting with conference registration on arrival day,
Be a staff representative for all workshops and sessions they choose to attend
Staffing the conference information area when programs or workshops are not in session
Completing other volunteer duties, as assigned
We need volunteers for the success of a conference, and it is a wonderful way to have fun, enrich your conference experience, as well as get a behind-the-scenes experience. While the purpose of this program is to provide support staff for the conference, it also allows a participant the opportunity to fully participate in the conference. Work assignments will not be issued during sessions, workshops or other activities they choose to attend.
Please note the number of positions are very limited. Appointments will be on a first-come, first-served basis and demonstrated financial need. To apply send a letter of application to the address above (or email – see CONTACT below) demonstrating interest and financial need along with email and street address.
PLEASE NOTE: This conference-related work covers the cost for a 3 day conference - registration, sessions, workshops, meals, activities, and onsite lodging only for each day worked.
