Optional add-ons  2019 conference

 The conference registration fee covers two full days of keynote talks, presentations, workshops, exhibits, and entertainment -- plus lunch and dinner both days, Monday, June 17 & Tuesday, June 18 (3 breakfasts also included for those who stay on-site at our venue, the Claggett Center). In addition, a Sunday evening reception includes a visit by Clara Barton, who began her illustrious life as a teacher in 2 one-room schoolhouses. (Check-in begins at 1 pm on Sunday, June 16).

Take advantage of numerous optional pre- and post-conference activities the afternoon of Sunday, June 16 as well as the morning of Thursday, June 20, in addition to our ever-popular daylong site visits to restored schoolhouses Wednesday, June 19. (Set $10 pre- and post-conference activity fee applies to all of these options.)

  Sunday, June 16:
​1.  ​Private Smithsonian Institution viewing of schoolhouse exhibit items with curator Debbie Schaefer-Jacobs at 2 pm (held at the Smithsonian American History Museum on the Mall in DC; register early -- limited to first 15 registrants)

2.  Walking tour of historic sites in Frederick MD led by a Frederick historical society guide at 3:30 pm (meets at the Museum of Frederick County History, 24 E. Church St. in downtown Frederick)

-conference options
  Thursday, June 20:
​1.  “Behind the scenes” Smithsonian tour of artifact storage areas not open to the public with curator Debbie Schaefer-Jacobs  (meet at the Smithsonian American History Museum on the Mall in DC at 11 am; register early -- limited to first 15 registrants)

2.  Mini-tour: “Separate/Equal?” A caravan will leave the Claggett Center at 8:30 am stopping at two one-room schoolhouses of the same time period—one for white students, the other for African-American students. See the differences for yourself.
